Reef Threads Podcast #194

Arm of a basket starfish.

Arm of a basket starfish.

This week we talk about something for beginners and something for veterans. The beginner segment is mistakes to a avoid and the veteran segment is what to think about before turning your hobby into a business. We also learn that some people go to reef events carrying their own autograph pen so that they’re at the ready when a signature is requested. Reef Threads Podcast #193

Everyone should have a specie tank that's home to a Pygmy Tuberculated Angler. All of the other fish we talked about are already sold. Sorry.

Everyone should have a specie tank that’s home to a Pygmy Tuberculated Angler. All of the other fish we talked about are already sold. Sorry.

It was a whim and we went with it. We trashed everything we were planning to talk about, fired up the Live Aquaria Diver’s Den page and geeked out about fish for 50 minutes. We had fun. Hope you enjoy listening. Download the podcast here, or subscribe to our podcasts at iTunes. Also, follow us on Twitter at reefthreads.—Gary and Christine

Maybe this was the butterfly Gary “imported” from Hawaii.

This is the podcast in which we play 20 questions, but actually only get to seven before we run out of time. It doesn’t matter because we uncovered some fun memories along the way. Reef Threads Podcast #189 Delayed

We’re sorry to report that there will be no podcast this week. A family wedding on Christine’s end of the operation and travel on Gary’s end conspired to make it impractical to record this week. Rest assured, we’ll be back next week with #189.
Thanks for understanding,
Gary and Christine

A colony photographed by the folks at Coral Morphologic.

This week we’re joined by Colin Foord of Coral Morphologic. Colin has been in the news lately because of his efforts to save corals that were living in the Government Cut shipping channel in Miami, FL. The Army Corps of Engineers has begun a project to make that channel wider and deeper and were going to destroy corals that have adapted to that very different environment. Colin took steps to save them and, this week, tells the story of his efforts and what he’s doing with the corals he’s saved. Download the podcast here, or subscribe to our podcasts at iTunes.
