Reef Threads Podcast #66

One of Matt Pedersen's Chaetodon capistratus.

We return this week to further discuss ecolabelling and the legislative situation in Hawaii, but our primary focus in this podcast is on the Jan/Feb issue of Coral magazine and its articles about what our hobby is doing to produce sustainable reef animals for our aquariums. This is the positive side of the sustainability question and it needs as much attention as is being devoted to reef radicals in Hawaii. Reef Threads Podcast #61: Ret Talbot

No other issue in the history of this hobby has had the potential impact on the future of our aquariums like the situation with the fisheries in Hawaii. Driving most of what is going on in the islands is emotion and anecdotal evidence. As a result, information about situations such as this typically is uneven and riddled with inaccuracies.

Ret Talbot's photo of a shoal of Moorish Idols. Like his Facebook page to learn more about his photography and listen to this week's podcast to learn more about the situation in Hawaii.

That’s not the case with this situation. We are very fortunate to have Ret Talbot as our main information source. Talbot, with the support of Coral magazine, has done a stellar job of understanding all sides of the issues, and providing us with ongoing objective reporting. This week we are privileged to have Ret join us and talk about the situation and what it means for this hobby. If you care at all about the reefs and our hobby, it is essential that you become informed and take action when it’s appropriate. Listen to this podcast, share it with others, and read Ret’s articles and posts. Download the podcast here, or subscribe to our podcasts at iTunes. Also, follow us on Twitter at reefthreads. We hope you find the podcast to be informative and will tell others about Reef Threads.—Gary and Christine
