Reef Threads Podcast #304

If you’re having aquarium issues, use root-cause-analysis thinking to determine the true cause of the problem.

In our second 2017 podcast, we apply root-cause-analysis thinking to a fish-room crisis to separate, based on what we know, symptoms from actual causes. The lesson is to use this kind of thinking in your own aquarium keeping to eliminate time, expense, and animal stress/death. Download the podcast here, or subscribe to our podcasts at iTunes. Reef Threads Podcast #303

Christine is an open-water SCUBA diver.

We return, refreshed from our holiday break. Gary stayed home and enjoyed family while Christine flew to St. Lucia, learned how to SCUBA dive, and visited some real reefs. This week we learn what it’s like as a beginner to earn an open-water SCUBA certification. It’s not as daunting as it appears. If SCUBA is in your dreams, this podcast will get you over the hump. Reef Threads Podcast #300

300This week we celebrate 300 Reef Threads podcasts with guests Richard Ross, Ben Johnson, and Chris Maupin. In a wide-ranging discussion we look back at some of the Reef Threads history and then address hobby issues and learn about the work Chris is doing. Sadly, Richard Ross had to leave in the middle of the show. We learned later that he had to make an emergency trip to the vet but they were not able to save one of their family cats.
We hope you enjoy the the show and thank all of our loyal listeners for staying with us through these many years and shows. Also, a huge thanks to Rod’s Food for their continued sponsorship. Reef Threads Podcast #299

Emily McPherson's 20-gal reef.

Emily McPherson’s 20-gal reef.

For podcast #299, we’re very excited to have listener Emily McPerson as our guest. Join us to hear how she took a 10-gal. “gift” and, after a bunch of research, whipped that tank into shape, upgraded to a 20-gal reef, and then used the 10-gal tank to her new passion for the reef-aquarium hobby with her friends at the local senior center. It’s a great story about how someone who knew nothing about the hobby got hooked and is now enjoying and sharing the beauty of reef animals.
